The Manager's Desktop (PPMDT)
Purpose
Use this procedure to run the Manager's Desktop. This procedure is not designed to take you through the entire working details of the Manager's Desktop - it is more a high level overview of how to access the features of the Manager's Desktop.
Trigger
Perform this procedure when as a Manager you wish to perform any of the tasks available from the Manager's Desktop. Functions from the Manager's Desktop can be seen as follows:
Viewing Options
Setting the Time Period
Directly Subordinate Employees
All Subordinate Employees
Viewing Cost Centre Assignments
Viewing Directly Reporting Employees
Functional Options
Writing an Ad Hoc report
Executing a Standard Employee Data Report.
Education and training
Employee appraisals
Personnel Development - Appraisals and Qualifications.
Prerequisites
Your User record must be associated with your Employee record using the communication infotype. This task will be carried out by your HR department. Please refer to procedure Communication for further details.
The Position to which your employee record is assigned must be set up as a "Chief Position" within your department please refer to procedure Change Organisation and Staffing - Editing Positions for further details. This task will be carried out by your HR department.
Navigation Path
Use the following Navigation path(s) to begin this transaction:
•  Select Processes è Human Resources è Managers Desktop è Manager's Desktop to go to the Manager's Desktop - SME screen.
Helpful Hints
When viewing your organisational structure within the Manager's Desktop the following Icons denote the Objects, which can be viewed.
Image Person
Image Position
Image Chief Position
Image Organisational Unit
Image Cost Centre
Field Description Tables
The R/O/C column of each Field Description table indicates whether the field usage is:
R - Required in SAP.
O - Optional in SAP.
C - Conditional in SAP.
Procedure
1. Start the transaction using the navigation path.

2. Double click Manager's Desktop to go to the Manager's Desktop - SME screen.

3. Perform one of the following:
If
Go To
You wish to perform functions on Employees within your departmental structure - (This section also contains generic navigational details).
You wish to view all unoccupied positions within your departmental structure
You have finished using the Manager's Desktop.
 
4. Click Image to go to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.

5. Perform one of the following:
If
Then
You wish to set the time period for viewing
You wish to view directly subordinate employees
You wish to view all subordinate employees
You wish to view cost centre assignments within your departmental structure
You wish to view employees who report directly to you.
You wish to write an Ad Hoc report on your selected Organisational Unit(s), Position(s) or Person(s).
You wish to run a standard report for your selected Organisational Unit(s), Position(s) or Person(s).
You wish to report on Education and training for your selected Organisational Unit(s), Position(s) or Person(s).
You wish to create or evaluate appraisals on your selected Organisational Unit(s), Position(s) or Person(s).
You wish to enter the personnel File for an Employee so as to process an Employee's Qualification profile or Appraisal details.
You have finished using the Manager's Desktop - SME Employee interface.
 
6. Click Image to go to the Manager's Desktop change period window.

7. Complete the following fields:

8. Click Image to confirm your entries.
9. Return to Step 5
10. Click Image to go to the Directly Subordinate Employee View.

12. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

14. Click Image to go to the Cost Centres View.

16. Click Image to go to the Directly reporting chief view.

17. Return to Step 5
18. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

19. Select the Objects on which you wish to report.
Note You can select any of the above objects for Ad hoc Reporting; please note that the report will be on all objects subordinate to the objects selected. To select an object click on it, or to select multiple objects hold down the Ctrl key when you click.

Note In this example we have selected the Finance department and the Sales department and al corresponding subordinate objects.
20. From the Selected functions window select Image to go to the HR Ad Hoc Query screen.

21. Perform the functions you require in the Ad Hoc Report writer.

22. Once you have completed your Ad Hoc Reporting activities click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.

24. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

25. Select the Objects on which you wish to report.
Note You can select any of the above objects for standard reporting; please note that the report will be on all objects subordinate to the objects selected. To select an object click on it, or to select multiple objects hold down the Ctrl key when you click.

26. From the Selected functions window select the report you wish to execute.
Example: In this example the Image report. This takes you directly to the Birthday List report output screen.

Note You can process the report as required. Procedure Run an Adhoc Report provides help on reporting output options.
27. Once you have completed your Reporting activities click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.
28. Return to Step 5
29. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

Note30. Perform one of the following:
If
Then
You wish to run the Bookings with History Report.
Select one or more Employees from the All Subordinate Employees View
You wish to run the Attendance Bookings Report.
Select Employees and/or Organisational Units from the All Subordinate Employees View
 
Note You can use the Ctrl key when selecting multiple objects.

31. Click the report you wish to execute.
Example: In this example the Image report. This takes you directly to Attendee Bookings report output screen.

32. Click Go Back to return to the Once you have completed your Reporting activities click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.
33. Return to Step 5
34. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

35. Select the Employee or Employees for which you wish to evaluate or create an appraisal.

36. Perform one of the following:

You wish to evaluate an appraisal
Click Image to take you to the Display Appraisal Screen.
Once you have evaluated the Appraisal then click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.
You wish to create an appraisal
Click Image and refer to procedure Create Appraisal as required.
 
37. Return to Step 5
38. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

Note39. Select the Employee for which you wish to process the Employee Profile.

40. Click Image to go to the Employee Profile.

41. Process Appraisals and Qualifications as required.

42. Click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Employee screen.
43. Return to Step 5.
44. Click Image to go to the Manager's Desktop - SME: Organisation screen.

45. Click Image to go to the All Subordinate Employee View.

46. Select the Objects you wish to process.

47. Click Image to view all unoccupied positions.

50. Click Go Back to return to the Manager's Desktop - SME screen.
